The cycle hire scheme, backed by the Lord Mayor, started July 2010. For the first month, only signed up members can use the bikes, and then they are available to anybody. To sign up, go the the website above.

You can take a bike from any docking station in London, and leave it off at any other station. There are 400 cycle docks throughout London. For cycle dock locations in Mayfair see above.

The bike hire scheme is aimed for people making short journeys, and for this reason, there is no charge for the first half hour of cycling. After this time the cost goes up, but remember you can cross central London in less than half an hour.

The best way to see the city is walking. The best way to see the city and get somewhere fast is cycling.

Bike hire in London is a great idea. Try it!
